Cultural Kitchen Adaptation

A leading German appliance manufacturer recognized the potential of the diverse Indian market but faced the challenge of adapting their refrigerator designs to meet unique regional needs. They sought deep cultural insights that could inform truly localized product development, acknowledging that within India's wide diaspora, each sub-culture maintains distinct food practices that place different demands on refrigeration solutions.

Culturally-Informed Design

The manufacturer aspired to create refrigerators specifically tailored to Indian households' diverse needs rather than simply importing European designs. The project's unique value emerged through identifying six key storage patterns across Indian households - from frequent fresh produce purchases to specialized spice storage needs. These insights translated into specific design implications including modular storage and culturally appropriate aesthetics suitable for refrigerators placed in dining areas.

Regional, Specific Insights

Our strategy team conducted detailed research across Indian sub-regions. Through innovative engagement tools and games, our insights revealed how standard refrigerator designs force Indian households to compromise, highlighting opportunities for culturally-aligned features.
