Symphony's Diet cooler dominated the market for a decade but needed revitalization without changing its beloved compact form factor. Our design solution increased capacity, enhanced efficiency, and introduced contemporary aesthetics while maintaining its perfect 1x1 feet dimensions.
A Long Partnership
Symphony's relationship with Elephant Design spans twenty-five years of continuous collaboration across their entire product line. The Diet cooler, designed by Elephant a decade ago, pioneered the compact residential cooling segment with its revolutionary 1x1 feet footprint that perfectly suited Indian middle-class homes. The wall-mountable "Cloud" variant further expanded its versatility. This innovation established Symphony as the category leader, helping fuel their international growth through acquisitions while the Diet remained their highest-selling model across all segments despite remaining essentially unchanged for ten years. 
Evolution Without Compromise
Symphony recognized that despite the Diet's continued market dominance, it needed revitalization to maintain its relevance and leadership position. Their challenge to Elephant was multifaceted: introduce novelty and contemporary design elements while preserving the product's defining characteristics: its compact dimensions, superior cooling performance, and accessibility. Rather than a mere aesthetic refresh, Symphony aspired to enhance functionality within the same footprint, creating a comprehensive product range that would extend their market advantage while honouring the legacy of their flagship offering.Maximum Innovation, Minimum Space
The Diet's decade-long success created its own redesign challenge: how to significantly improve a bestselling product without changing its defining compact dimensions. The original 1x1 feet footprint had become sacred to consumers and changing it would risk alienating loyal customers who valued its perfect fit in Indian homes.
Our solution focused on engineering innovations within the existing envelope. We increased tank capacity while maintaining external dimensions, enhancing single-use longevity. Additional cooling pads improved efficiency without expanding the footprint. 
Breaking Constraints…with constraints
The redesigned Diet features an involute pattern of layered panels creating visual depth and contemporary appeal. The cleaned front face enhances visual simplicity while the customizable LCD control panel provides modern functionality. This balanced integration of aesthetic refinement and enhanced performance demonstrates the potential for significant innovation within strict dimensional constraints, preserving the product's market-leading position.
A Futuristic Flower in Bloom
The product architecture was designed to accommodate variants ranging from 8 to 55 Liters, creating a comprehensive range that addressed diverse consumer needs while maintaining the Diet's signature compactness. The innovative gel pack technology replaced traditional ice bricks, providing superior cooling performance in the same space. 
Blooming Tech
The redesigned Diet's aesthetic draws inspiration from nature's efficiency, featuring a central "flower bud" surrounded by rising "petal" panels with curved sides.
